Zhongbang Xingyi Releases a Type C 5A Fast Charging Cable: There Are Over-Temperature Protection Function and Short Circuit Protection Function in It
Compared to old interfaces, USB Type C interface supports positive and negative blind insertion, and can be used for high-power charging and high-speed data transmission. USB Type C is used for more and more terminal devices and charging devices because of its high universality.
However, the number of pins of Type C interface is more than 24, and the distance between adjacent pins is unprecedentedly close. Such a close distance causes short circuit easily due to dust, sewage and other foreign matters. The manifestation is that the temperature of plug is in a hot state. In severe cases, mobile phones, tablet computers, laptops and other devices could be damaged, and lithium batteries on equipments could explode.

The charging process can be monitored and protected through some components such as temperature sensing IC, switching tube MOSFET and NTC thermistor. Zhongbang Xingyi over-temperature protection cables are mainly used for USB Type-C port. The types of the cables include USB2.0 Type-A to Type-C, USB2.0 Type-C to Type-C, and USB 2.0 Lightning to Type-C. They adpots high-current cable cores, which can pass 5A high current and cover the main usage range in the market.
At present, there are no over-temperature protection function and over-current protection function in most of mainstream charging data cables in the market. Even if there are, only PTC thermistors are used in them to solve this problem. The working principle of PTC thermistor is that the impedance value is increased by relying on the increasing temperature to output low voltage. However, the disadvantage is that there is still output after the temperature of the plug increases, which will make the temperature of interfaces of terminal devices increase continuously, such as mobile phones, computers, causing potential safety hazards.
In order to solve this problem, Zhongbang Xingyi develops a solution: the over-temperature protection is realized by the combination of temperature-sensitive IC, switching tube MOSFET, NTC thermistor and other components. According to the data detected by NTC thermistor in real time, temperature-sensitive IC sends instructions to switching tube MOSFET to turn on or turn off output. The principle of short circuit protection function is that when a short circuit between VBUS and GND is detected, the main control IC sends instructions to switching tube MOSFET to turn off output. Therefore, battery explosion or greater potential safety hazards caused by increasing temperature of electronic equipments can be avoided.
In addition to the temperature control scheme in the Type-C port, corresponding treatments are made in the Type-A port for coping with large current scenario. From the photo of macro, it can be seen that the interface adopts two convex wide contact points to makes itself contact to charging equipments better and reduce contact resistance in the case of large current charging as well as reduce energy loss and temperature rise.
In actual measurements, when the Type-A to Type-C 5A fast charging cable of Zhongbang Xingyi is used to charge P30 Pro, it successfully matches Huawei SCP low-voltage and high-current fast charging protocol, and the power is 4.45V 4.87A 21.71W. The temperature of the Type-C connector increases slowly, and it is not hot when the hands touch it.
