Biyi Releases a 65W National Gallium Nitride Fast Charging Reference Design and KP2202 Firstly

At the 2020 (winter) USB PD&Type-C Asia Exhibition held last month, the reference design of 65W gallium nitride fast charger based on KP2202 made its debut, and Biyi became one of the few power chip enterprises in China that master the control technology of gallium nitride fast chargers.
Biyi 65W gallium nitride fast charger reference design adopts the combination of KP2202+KP4060. The overall scheme has some characteristics, such as high frequency, high efficiency and low standby power consumption.
Biyi KP2202 has built-in high voltage starting function, and integrates AC input power failure detection and X capacitor discharge function. The chip has 1% constant voltage accuracy. Ultra-low starting and working current. The standby power consumption is less than 30mW. It supports trough locking mode. The maximum working frequency can be adjusted in three gears, namely 500kHz, 300kHz and 140kHz. The dithering function is achieved by peak current dithering. The power supply range of VDD is from 8V to 100v. The chip integrates perfect and comprehensive protection function. The built-in driver can drive mainstream GaN switching tubes.
Synchronous rectifier controller KP4060 supports DCM, BCM, CCM, QR operation mode and active clamp Flyback topology, and supports 600kHz operation frequency. It integrates high voltage detection circuit and high voltage power supply circuit as well as intelligent dual LDO. It does not need auxiliary winding power supply, and supports output short circuit SR operation. KP4060 supports a wide range of output voltage applications (0~20V), and is especially suitable for fast charging fields that support QC, PD and other protocols. It also supports high-side or low-side configuration, < 30ns switching-on and switching-off delay, Gate drives active clamping technology to prevent false switching-on caused by parasitic coupling. It has patented intelligent current zero-crossing switching-off and intelligent switching-on detection technology to prevent false switching-on to ensure safe use.
Thanks to the built-in driver of the chip, the peripheral circuit is very simple. It can combine with the gallium nitride fast charging scheme with high frequency, high efficiency and high power density, which is developed by mainstream GaN power devices in the market.
It is learned that KP2202 is in the sample stage. It is expected that a mass production version will enter the market in March 2021.
